When it comes to basic home improvements and repairs, I'm not one to pick up a screwdriver and do it myself. Am I lazy? No. Am I scared? You bet. What if I do it all wrong and it looks terrible? Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey -- wait, is that right? Let's get over our self-doubt together and do a few home improvements this weekend, OK?

House Painting 101
If you're looking to spruce up your living space but don't have a ton of time or money, try giving it a fresh coat of paint. This list includes essential supplies that'll make the job easier, whether you're painting a bedroom or the exterior of your house.

Install A Kitchen Faucet
Has your faucet seen better days? Try installing a new one -- you won't believe how this small home improvement breathes life into an otherwise outdated kitchen. Installation instructions can vary based on the faucet model, so we're lucky our Guide to Plumbing covers the most common brands here.

Replace A Light Socket (Carefully)
Of all home improvements, electrical work scares me the most. But I'm gonna be brave this weekend and replace a broken light socket in my ceiling fan. Who's with me?

Give Your Cabinets A Facelift
This is another great way to update your kitchen (or bathroom, or bedroom -- wherever you've got cabinets). Trust me. My friend recently put new handles on his 20-year-old kitchen cabinets, and now they look maybe only 5 years old. Seriously though, they look awesome.
