| | From Angela Bradley, your About Programming Editor Dear Subscriber, Welcome to this week's edition of your About Programming Newsletter. First we tackle the question... RGB or Hex? Then we move on to our next question... to certificate or not to certificate? Next we see what's in store for Matz (Yukihiro Matsumoto), and how to get child nodes using JavaScript. Have a great week! | | Do you convert your CSS colors from RGB to hex? It used to be a lot more important to know how to convert RGB to hexadecimal because hex was essentially the only way to use the millions of colors available for web designers beyond the named colors. There are many color converters you can find on the web, but it's easy to convert RGB to hex with a calculator for Windows or a calculator for Macintosh. But my question is, do you still bother? | To Certificate or Not to Certificate Steven wrote and asked for career advice. He said that he had been reading a lot of technical books and training videos concentrating on VBA for "Access, Outlook, etc." and he just can't get enough. He doesn't have any formal computer science education but he said that his passion for the technology was starting to make him the Microsoft Office expert where he works. | Matz Joins Heroku According to the official press release, Yukihiro Matsumoto (AKA 'matz') has been hired by Heroku, the web application cloud. Matsumoto is the original creator of Ruby, and has been steadily working on it since 1993. This is a big deal for Heroku, employing the creator and chief architect of Ruby is a win-win for both Heroku and the Ruby community. | Get Child Nodes As well as moving up the document tree, JavaScript also allows us to move down. Unlike the next sibling, previous sibling, and parent options though which return a single node, moving down the tree (such as moving into a paragraph) will return a nodelist rather than a single node. | | | | Programming Ads | | | | Featured Articles | | | | | | | | Sign up for more free newsletters on your favorite topics | | | | You are receiving this newsletter because you subscribed to the About Programming newsletter.
