From Connie Barwick, your About Needlecrafts Editor
Here are a few things to help you get your year started off right - sewing tips, a calendar, felting tips, and more!

Get to Know Your Sewing Machine
Did you receive a sewing machine as a gift recently or do you just need to brush up on your skills? These tips and tricks will have you more confident with using your machine in no time. Learn about what you need to know to operate your machine and make it do what you want it to do.
See More About:  learn to sew  sewing basics  easy projects

Create a Felt Heart Pin with Rubber Stamp Embroidery
Rubber stamp embroidery is yet another use for your stamps. A rubber stamped image makes an ideal template for embroidery projects. Felt makes an excellent fabric for this project as it is readily available in a wide selection of colors and, best of all, felt does not fray. This means that no tedious hemming is required and this project can be undertaken by someone with even the most basic of sewing skills.

2012 Quilting Calendar
The quilts in the calender were made by members of the quilting community at About.com. Janet had more than enough to choose from and will be taking submissions again for 2013!

Felting without a Machine
Most people prefer felting by machine if they have the option, but felting can also be done by hand, in your sink, a bucket, a washtub or even the bathtub. Depending on the size of the project, felting your project by hand can still be quick and easy.
