Music From Chad Bowar, your About Music Editor As the leaves turn and weather gets colder, fall is a great time for new music. Just like studios release the cream of the crop Oscar movies towards the end of the year, record companies do the same for their big-name artists, trying to capitalize on holiday shopping. Our music guides give a rundown of some new and upcoming music for the last part of 2011. October's Top 10 Rap Albums October's lineup is strictly for fans of headphone music. Hoochie mamas, keep stepping. None of these ten titles will fill up a dancefloor, but some of them will probably shame you at the stop light when you find yourself chanting along, nodding emphatically. New Blues Releases: October, 2011 The year is coming to a close, but there's still plenty of great blues music to be heard. This month includes some choice reissues from folks like Big Joe Turner, Jeff Beck, and Howlin' Wolf as well as a diverse selection of new blues from artists like Carolyn Wonderland, Popa Chubby, the Cash Box Kings, and Sugar Ray & the Bluetones. Testing Sender Pierre in Belgium wrote to me with an interesting question. "Sender does not seem to work as you can see with the small program I wrote especially for your guidance." Conditional Statements I imagine the very first computer programs were very simple number crunchers. Program some numbers into memory (in the very beginning, by hand) and run the program to compute an average or something. But things have gotten a little more complex than that. Computers need to be able to do different things depending on what was input, what state the program is in, or even what time it is. At the heart of this type of behavior is the conditional statement. Auto & Wheels One day Honda will get the Civic Hybrid right... but it's not today. In lighter news, a little assistant recently joined the Autos channel; check it out below. 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid Swings and Misses Swing and a miss? I wonder if that should be a start and a stall. Blast it all! Honda updates the Civic Hybrid and, still, the Prius pulls out ahead. Okay, so maybe you can skip the hybridized Civic and stick with the other ones? You'd save some cash and maybe you could use it to take the bus sometimes. Or buy a Segway. The sedan style is more popular, but to me it's akin to wearing a suit. Sure, you're pretty, but you can't do much else than stand around (being pretty). The Outback is about as close as you can get to wearing a suit while still being useful. Are there similar cars? Yes, but nothing quite so useful.
