The first video game system I ever owned--well, that my parents owned--was the Intellivision, which later gave way to the Amiga computer (remember those?), which eventually was replaced by a Sega Genesis. All wonderful in their own ways, though all sucked up way too much of my free time. Chances are many of the games featured below in our Retro Video Game Spectacular occasionally kept you glued to the television set for hours on end, too.

Not only was the Nintendo Entertainment System the console that resurrected video games, the system's top titles also set the gameplay standard by which modern platforming, RPG, action, adventure and narrative are designed today.
