From Connie Barwick, your About Needlecrafts Editor
This week, I turned to my fellow crafty Guides for inspiration. I asked them to pick the items featured - there's lots more content than usual, so take your time, peruse the projects, and pick a few to try out!

Redwork Alphabet Series

The Redwork Alphabet is an ongoing series featuring each of the 26 letters of the Roman alphabet worked in surface embroidery using common embroidery stitches including stem stitch, back stitch and French knots. Each letter of the alphabet features an object starting with that letter, as well as a vining border. Blocks A and B have been posted, and successive blocks will be added every few weeks.

Nap Kit for Kindergarten or Daycare
I was at a friends house the other day when it was nap time... she babysits her grandchildren and nap time is not always a fun and agreeable time but I did notice that the children that had a special blanket were much more agreeable to settling down and resting... and they were the first ones to fall asleep. Making a special nap kit for each child might make nap time more agreeable for all!

Pearl, Crystal, and Seed Bead Swag Earrings
Get some swag going on and a little glitz too when you combine coin-shaped pearl beads, crystals, and Japanese seed beads to make these statement-style earrings. Even if you don't have a lot of bead weaving experience, you will be surprised how easy it is to make these.

Twisted Fringe Tutorial
Give your beadwork fringe a new twist with this detailed stitching tutorial. Color photographs help you every step of the way as you learn this variation on the basic fringe technique.

Scale Up Your Challenge by Scaling Down Your Work Size
Want to challenge your needlework skills? Lesley, the guide to miniatures, has assembled a number of links to needlework in smaller scales, including how to downscale your needlepoint using silk gauze, or change over your knitting or crochet to using embroidery thread or single strand wools.
