Programming From Angela Bradley, your About Programming Editor Dear Subscriber, Welcome to this week's edition of your About Programming Newsletter. This week we are looking at backup compression in SQL server 2012. Next we look at things to keep in mind if you are working on international websites. We then look at build configurations in VB.NET, and finally look at what happened to _why? Have a great week! Backup Compression in SQL Server 2012 Administrators may wish to take advantage of SQL Server's backup compression capabilities. This feature, only available in the Enterprise Edition of SQL Server 2008, is now available to Standard Edition users in SQL Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2012. Backup compression technology uses mathematical algorithms to shrink the size of database backups. Don't Forget the Dates on International Pages When writing web pages for an audience beyond the country where you live and work, it can be easy to forget that they don't do things exactly how you might in your country. Sure, you will remember to change the language and use special character codes, but there are other things you should do to make your pages understandable to an international audience. Build Configurations in VB.NET Microsoft uses the word build to describe "that stage in the development of computer software in which two or more independently developed software components are linked so that they can be tested in conjunction with one another." (Bing dictionary) W-a-a-y back when I programmed mainframe computers, IBM referred to it as the "linkedit". See More About:  program compile  build  visual studio Where's _why? About Auto & Wheels: Rising Luxury

If you can't see this email, click here

Auto & Wheels I've been chatting with my father-in-law for a couple of years about his next car. I think he'll stay in the luxury line (has an Infiniti now) but there are some lower-priced cars catching his eye. Test Drive: 2012 Hyundai Azera I know, I know. Hyundai isn't a luxury brand. But I'll tell ya, they've come so far so quickly that folks who would have never looked at the brand are now talking about the brand (and not in a mean way, either). Does the Azera have what it takes to turn that talk into sales? Read Why You Can Skip This Acura Whoa! Go, Buick! See More About:  hyundai  azera  luxury cars Most Fuel-Efficient Cars The one thing my father-in-law doesn't really mention is fuel. Oh, he wants better gas mileage, sure, but there's no way he's giving up his luxury bits. That means there's not a single car on this list that he'd consider. No offense to Lincoln but to father-in-law, luxury means a big car.
